Everyday Comix

I have been drawing autobiographical comix for many years. I also love to lead workshops to get people to write and draw their stories.

Community Artist

As an art instigator, I love to unleash confidence and enable flow in a team of people who have no idea how powerful and satisfied they can be as creators. I am far less concerned with art being good, and much more concerned with what art is good for: the opening up and empowerment of our individual and collective imaginations.

As an artist-in residence I have created large murals and intimate hand-cranked panoramas with groups of students, campers, neighbors and strangers. My collaborations playfully explore the meaning of place and personal storytelling.

Crankie Show Impresario

Leading collaborative crankie shows is one of my great passions. I have done this with communities across the country, from Gustavus, Alaska to Plymouth, Massachusetts.

"Sam's public artwork is such a positive embodiment and addition to the Bloomington community. His approach is inclusive, energetic, and fun. He works efficiently to create beautiful work that connects community members through joy and sense of place."
Sean M. Starowitz, Assistant Director for the Arts
City of Bloomington Economic & Sustainable Development Department
"Sam Bartlett is quite simply the most reliable, fun and engaging Artist-in-Residence we have ever worked with. From storytelling to visual arts to large-scale murals, we have been consistently rewarded by our collaborations. His unique fusion of art disciplines and approachable aesthetic make each engagement entertaining and successful. As a result, Sam's work with our youth over the years can still be found decorating city buildings, schools and camps throughout our county. The spirit he brings to the table is never anything less than stellar and we jump at the opportunity to work with him.”
